Visiting with friends and family in Tucson

20 Nov, 2017; Tucson AZ

Visiting family and friends . . .

In addition to my cousin and her family who have lived in Tucson for many years, a full half dozen of my Pacific NW friends have moved to the Southwest in the last year (Tucson and Santa Fe).

My cousin has a beautiful home in the foothills and I love spending afternoons and evenings on her patio - the outdoor living space is lovely and the backyard is lush and festive with twinkling lights..  The sound of hunting coyotes in the wash behind their house is so close it drowns out the conversation - and the conversation amazes as they tell me of visiting owls, javelina, bobcats and other denizens of the SW.

Lots of great hiking close to Tucson

Saguaro National Park (East and West), Catalina State Park, Sabino Canyon are only a few of the places with extensive hiking opportunities close to the city.  When it's too hot to hike, there are a number of extensive gardens that show off the local plants and provide some education on all the different varieties.

Crested Saguaro - very unusual!

Christmas cactus is starting to bloom!  Unlike the potted plant, these can be huge shrubs!

After hiking, a re-hydrating beverage while watching the sunset is always lovely!

With views like this, who needs TV?
