I have wanted to visit this town for years!
I've read about Truth or Consequences for years as other travel bloggers have passed through. Originally called Hot Springs, the town had it's start in the mid 1800's when a local rancher opened up a mineral bath over some hot springs. Set near the Rio Grande, more hot mineral springs were developed into spa's in the early 1900's as the Rio Grande changing river bed uncovered more hot springs. There is still a section of town dedicated to spas, resorts, and motels offering access to the mineral hot springs.

Colorful motel - gold, red, purple |

Many of the stucco building are covered in colorful murals |
|
Palm trees, stucco, local rock - very spa-like! |
|
The Pink Pelican motel |
The name was changed in 1950 as a result of a contest sponsored by the television game show Truth or Consequences - the first town that changed it's name would host the 10 anniversary airing of the popular show.

hmmm . . . . do they just not want me to linger? |

Some areas of the really cute downtown are more renovated than others. |

I couldn't resist a coffee and slice of quiche here |
After a morning of strolling around the cute downtown area, it was time to get some chores done. At the north end of town, there are some big box type stores. This walmart parking lot gives me an idea of how hot it probably gets in the summer. Even today, I appreciated the shade!!
