. . . and it was
First up was a visit from some Portland friends. They wanted some birding, so I checked with the SMR birding group and was directed to the Gilbert Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. This is a series of 8 or 9 ponds surrounded by trees and walking paths - excellent habitat and viewing opportunities. I didn't take Phoebe, but dogs are welcome on leash.
What is so interesting?
Egrets - we saw lots and lots of birds. I actually know these! |
A couple days later, a gal in the park suggested a short hike
There are longer trails to Hackberry Springs, but this hike starts only a few miles from the park and follows the natural washes and canyons to Hackberry Springs, a sweet little pothole in the desert. The hike took a couple hours (maybe 3-4 miles total) and was a perfect 2nd hike for Phoebe. She handled the boulders, scree, and desert trails like a pro - didn't even catch any cactus spines!
Hi Anne! I was happy to see that you published some new posts on your blog, but sad to read of the death of your brother. My heartfelt condolences. It's so good that you were able to be with him during his last weeks. I hope that your time at the women's community will be healing, and of course fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm in TN right now but headed to warmer climes around xmas, (women's RTR, Quarzite etc). Maybe one of these days we'll run into each other somewhere along the way.
All the best, stay well!
Ursula
I'll be at WRTR - I'll look for you!
DeleteGood morning, I have been catching up. I do enjoy reading your blog and the pictures are all so wonderful. I especially liked the blooming cacti on November 20th but your last picture of the clouds that day is gorgeous.
ReplyDeletePhoebe looks like a little precious bundle.
Not sure about barbed wire cactus. The Egrets are beautiful. It sounds like you landed in a fun place. Take care.
